1.
Secretary-Treasurer's Report as of September 30, 2000, KATESOL has
$1,408.14 in the checking account and $5,958.61 in the savings account,
for a combined balance of $7,366.75.
Our
membership currently stands at 89 members for the calendar year
2000.
[A
new membership form is on the last page of this Newsletter for your
2001 membership. Please renew before January 1, 2001.]
2.
We would like to increase membership in KATESOL to bring it back to a
higher level of participation.
[If
you know of someone in your school or program who is actively involved in
ESL or has an interest in ESL/ESOL but is not a member of KATESOL, please
help us by encouraging that individual to join our Kansas chapter of
TESOL.]
3.
We are in immediate need of one or two KATESOL members to take over the
publication of this news- letter, since Carol and Kay would like to step
down after the December 2000 issue. [Please consider volunteering, or
refer us to individuals who might be interested in this position.
Carol would be glad to give you specific information as to
responsibilities and support requirements to publish the
newsletter.]
4.
Nominations for one at-large member and the first Vice President are
being solicited. At present, we have one nomination for the 2-year
at-large positon: Mary Head. Mary is presently serving the
remainder of the term of Murle Mordy, who resigned to accept the position
of Secretary-Treasurer.
The
December issue of the KATESOL Newsletter will contain the ballot for the
election of officers for 2001.
5.
We would like to encourage you to attend the International TESOL
Conference in St. Louis, February 27 thru March 3,
2001.
Anyone
interested in helping with the "behind-the-scenes" work at the TESOL 2001
Conference should contact Sandra Bible -- phone: 913-438-2732,
or email: nihao@mail.swbell.net .
6. Website for
KATESOL. Mary Head, Member at-Large, from Lawrence, is exploring the
possibility of our using a server at one of the area schools. The
web site would enable us to post announcements between the
newsletter publishing dates.
7. KATESOL is
considering the possibility of either scheduling a joint conference with
the Bilingual/ESOL/Migrant Conference in Wichita next June; or at least
holding the annual business meeting at the Migrant Conference.
8. Feedback
concerning the conference last April in Liberal has been positive.
So many books were received for the conference that we were able to offer
a number of these complimentary books as door prizes. However, at
the request of some companies, we have retained selected books in the
KATESOL Lending Library (located at Emporia State University) for members
to check out.
Members can
access a list of these books online through your Public Library, your
school library, and arrange interlibrary
loans.
